Massage for Sports & Injuries
“The muscle spasms are much less apparent and less painful enabling me to exercise and continue my day to day activities much more comfortably.”
“I’ve come to you once or twice in the past and had a wonderful deep tissue massage for stress relief and to reduce fluid retention on a old hamstring injury.”
Muscular aches, pains and stiffness affect all of us at some time, irrespective of age. For those who exercise regularly muscular pain can be related to over use or failure to have a rest day between periods of hard training. Failure to stretch and poor hydration can lead to tightness. Often the cause is non-specific but gradually over time our muscles tighten-up. It is only when the discomfort increases or spreads that we finally seek treatment. Having a conditioning treatment earlier can ensure that a niggle does not develop into something more serious as the body tries to adapt and compensate for the problem area.
Stress is often a major contributory factor along with poor posture and incorrect use of our muscles (failure to stretch properly, extended periods of gardening, DIY, lifting too heavy an item, or poor technique)
Treatment incorporates gentle mobilisation of the spine (not manipulation) combined with releasing massage techniques and assisted stretches, and may include Range of Motion checks or Postural Assessment.
During a treatment session help and advice is offered to prevent further injury. After care information and guidance on improving posture is provided including remedial exercises and stretches to help aid recovery.
“Extremely professional throughout, Cheryl offered ideas for exercise at home that also helped treat the injury”
